Drilling, Drones and Guns ~ Arlington, TX Week in Review

This morning somewhere between that dreaming and waking state ~  moments prior to putting my boots on the ground ~  three headlines of this week's current events filled my head:

Arlington, Texas Week in Review:

Drilling:

to read this week's top stories about the Rocking Horse Gas Drill site situated 359 feet from a daycare facility.  City council approves this controversial gas well permit despite strong opposition from the community.

Here is the February 5, 2013 Rocking Horse Public Hearing:

Drones:

“It will help with significant applications across the community, from potential hostage situations to anything that will keep an officer out of harm's way,” Rivera said.

Guns:

What does this say about our current state of affairs in Arlington, Texas?

"As The Huffington Post reported in February, a study published in the journal "Psychological Science" showed that children who score low on intelligence tests gravitate toward socially conservative political views in adulthood--perhaps because conservative ideologies stress "structure and order" that make it easier to understand a complicated world."

The article  goes on to say,   "And now there's the new study linking conservative ideologies to "low-effort" thinking."

It's been three giant steps backwards for Arlington.

Over and Out.

  1. Great post and information, FCN!

You are absolutely right about the state of affairs in Arlington. The drilling issues are of great and increasing concern, and many people are doing their best to educate those who may not understand what's going on; the "rush to guns" is both puzzling and disturbing and adds to the already uneasy climate in Arlington. And imo, every single resident in this city (and all others) should be abundantly concerned about the use of drones, a serious invasion of the privacy of legal, law-abiding, honest citizens. And they should, especially come election time, take into account those in the council who, along with Commander Cluck, so fully support this invasion.

    1. This "rush to guns" is rooted in fear. Funny, how people are afraid of stricter gun laws but oblivious to the heavy industrial mining taking place right under their noses. The City could have purchased two FLIR [infared] cameras for the price of those drones. Seems that public health is on the bottom of Dr. Cluck's list of priorities.

  2. Arlington has surely gone off the deep end. But maybe now we'll know for sure how many FRAC ponds there are in the city. And what color underwear City Councilman Robert Rivera wears. Let's get those Open Records Requests in the cue. Amen.

  3. By the way, this is a brilliant summation of Arlington in early 2013. It's Arlington Gone Wild. Round and round it goes and where it stops nobody knows. Just be ready to duck and cover and then you can still enjoy the good life a little each day.
